Schaeffer is a professional grazer, who started out as an Aerospace Engineer as a UVA undergraduate and got a great job designing software for astronaut training in the Space Station Program. He is still prone to using the cliché, “well, it’s not rocket science,” on occasion. His day job is teaching at the UVA School of Architecture, where he is focused on urban and architectural design that creates wellbeing, health and happiness. Schaeffer is a committed modernist and inspired by the design of the Vaughan House, so you will find him leading many student groups from the A-School on expeditions to explore and draw the house and dormitories. When he is out and about, feel free to ask him questions about the design and history of the site. On weekends you will find him tracing his daughters with sidewalk chart and coaxing them to go on walks in the woods.
Zoe and Hannah
Zoe and Hannah are both born and raised in Charlottesville and will be entering 6th grade and 4th grade respectively at the Village School and VL Murray Elementary School. When they are not reading or engaged in art projects this Summer, they can be found swimming at Fry’s Spring Beach Club. In the Fall they will trade their suits for cleats and hit the soccer field. Both girls are looking forward to meeting “the college students” at Hereford, and enjoy eating at Runk Dining Hall, where they have limited access to the ice cream freezers and soda machines.
