Director of Studies
The Director of Studies works to develop programming and opportunities that engage students in inquiry and discovery. These opportunities will provide the chance for meaningful student engagement, including engaging with Hereford's Faculty Fellows.
R. Alan Leffers came to UVA following a 25-year career in student affairs and enrollment management at institutions in Massachusetts, New York, and Pennsylvania. His most recent administrative role was as Vice President for Enrollment, Retention & Student Affairs at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, where he served for ten years. Leffers’s areas of expertise include higher education law, college student retention, strategic planning, and higher education finance.
Alan Leffers teaches master’s degree and doctoral students enrolled in the Higher Education program in the School of Education & Human Development.He and his husband, Mike Longo, moved to Charlottesville in 2016. Their household is run by two perfect dogs named Cookie and Pumpkin.
