STUDENT SENATE

SENATE BUDGET

The Senate oversees a substantial budget consisting of student activities funds for enrichment programs, community-building activities, and improvements at the college.

MEETINGS

The Senate meets every Sunday at 8pm in the Hereford Hub. Meetings are open to the Hereford community and all Herefordians are encouraged to attend.

ELECTIONS

Elections to HSS occur at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semester and at the conclusion of the academic year.

SUSTAINABILITY
COMMITTEE

The Sustainability Committee fosters the spirit of physical wellness at Hereford by planning educational programs and practices that raise awareness of environmental issues. Recent activities include: working to improve Hereford’s physical environment (e.g. hand-dryers; shower timers), providing Herefordians with reusable plates, cups, and utensils for all community-wide events, and establishing a composting program.

NAPS
COMMITTEE

The NAPS (Needs, Advocacy, Physical Space) Committee exists to fulfill the general needs of the Hereford Community, such as enhancing Hereford’s public spaces, responding to student calls for improvements to the Hereford Hub and distributing personal care bags during final exams.

SOCIAL
COMMITTEE

The Social Committee plans and executes one-time and recurring social events for the Hereford community, such as karaoke nights, tailgates, ice cream socials, as well as Breakfast Club and Cookie Night.

BANQUET
COMMITTEE

The Banquet Committee designs, plans, and executes all banquets sponsored by the Hereford Student Senate. There are monthly banquets, but also special events, such as Chinese New Year.

SOCIAL AWARENESS
COMMITTEE

The Social Awareness Committee seeks to increase dialogue at Hereford on issues related to social justice, particularly as they pertain to members of our own community. Events and activities include lectures or open-invitation conversations with faculty members or in collaboration with other groups around Grounds.

FELLOWS
COMMITTEE

The Fellows Committee creates a strong relationship between Hereford’s Faculty Fellows and the student community. This committee collaborates with the Hereford Principal to engage with and plan programs around Fellows’ interests.

OUTREACH
COMMITTEE

The Outreach Committee has two main goals: to recruit and retain Hereford participants, and reach out to other CIOs, Residential Colleges, and the Charlottesville community.

MINDFULNESS
COMMITTEE

The Mindfulness Committee works to enhance students’ overall wellbeing through mindfulness programming, such as qigong, stress relief workshops, and yoga.
