As I sit here at the Hereford move-in table, starting my second year as Principal, I reflect back to a year ago when I was sitting at this very same table. I was just as lost as the new students coming to Grounds for their first time: I didn’t even know the names of all of the buildings on O-Hill; I didn’t know what time Runk opened; I couldn’t even tell people where to park. I was useless. Now, here I sit only a year later, and I’m directing parents to the Stadium parking lot, telling the students about our sustainability mission and giving them their reusable plates, silverware, and cups. What a difference a year makes!
On a beautiful day like today, I am reminded how beautiful Hereford is. The trees are all leafy green, and the clouds paint the blue sky like billowy cotton swirls. I can feel the excitement flowing through the air as each minivan or SUV pulls up to the curb and another student strides toward our table. I’m not a rookie anymore, and I’m ready to take on this year with everything I’ve got. No, scratch that…our entire community is ready for the 2019-2020 school year! Watch out, UVA: Hereford is bringing it this year, and we’re going to astound!
